In 2003 Christy was cleaning out Caneel’s hooves - a big warmblood mare with bar shoes, with an old wire hoofpick. The clay based dirt of Colorado was packed in like concrete again and it was a dreaded job to clean out her hooves. The small wire handle would leave pressure grooves in the palm of Christy's hands and the pick end was so short it made the job arduous.

She searched the stores and found a hoofpick she thought might make the job easier but before long, in the middle of picking out the second hoof, it bent. She had to borrow a different hoofpick from a friend to finish the job.

Christy thought someone must manufacture a decent hoofpick. Assuming farriers would certainly have a good tool, she asked one after another and discovered that not a single farrier she spoke with used a commercially produced pick. They all forged their own. She saw this as a great opportunity to make a quality product that everyone would appreciate and thus began to design the Ultimate Hoofpick.

Many prototypes were produced and tested prioritizing comfort and function. Finally, Christy knew she had the design that would delight fellow horse lovers and clean hooves quickly and easily. In 2007 the first inventory of the Ultimate Hoofpick™ arrived and soon hit the shelves. A quality tool that is being met with exclamations of joy in every barn it enters.
